04/17/2013 - 2013 NFL DRAFT: 124 FBS PROGRAMS, 124 POSSIBLE UNDRAFTED ROOKIE FREE AGENTS: SOUTH FLORIDA: OT Mark Popek (6-7, 311, 5.47)...A two-year starter at left tackle, Popek is still very rough around the edges, but he has earned praise from the coaching staff for his consistent improvement each season. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

12/10/2012 - 2012 ALL-BIG EAST SECOND TEAM (COACHES): OG Mark Popek, USF, Sr., Plant City, Fla./Plant City, has been selected Second Team All-BIG EAST Conference (Coaches selection) for the 2012 college football season. Popek provided USF with versatility on the line this season despite battling through injuries. The Plant City, Fla., native began the year on the Outland Trophy Watch List and wound up starting nine games. - South Florida football

07/18/2012 - 2012 OUTLAND TROPHY PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Mark Popek, USF, OT, has been selected to the Preseason Outland Trophy Watch List for the 2012 college football season, which goes to the best interior lineman in college football, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America. Popek's progress on the field has been notable since redshirting during the 2008 season. He made a combined 12 starts at tackle from 2009-10 and doubled that amount last season while helping the USF offense finish 30th in the country at 432.8 yards per game. "Over the two years we've been here, especially from year one to year two, he's improved as much as anybody has," USF offensive coordinator Todd Fitch said. "He's really gained confidence in his play over the course of last fall. We saw more and more from him and going into his senior year we expect that growth to continue." Popek will look to keep his play at a high level in his final year of auditioning for NFL scouts and he's got a pretty nice fallback plan if pro ball isn't in his future. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminology this spring and is six classes away from earning another bachelor's degree in history. - USF football

07/02/2012 - Top-five South Florida prospects for the 2013 NFL Draft: 1. OT Mark Popek (6-7, 305)...In order for the Bulls to have a successful 2012 campaign, the South Florida offensive line needs to keep quarterback B.J. Daniels healthy. And the leader of the Bulls' offensive line is Popek, the senior left tackle and one of the top offensive linemen in the Big East. He was a late riser as a high school recruit out of Plant City, Florida, adding over 75 pounds before his senior season and redshirting in his first season at South Florida. Popek was an off-and-on starter as a freshman and sophomore tackle, starting nine games from 2009-10. He became the full-time starter at left tackle last season as a junior, starting all 12 games and earning praise from the coaching staff as the team's most consistent lineman. After spending more time in the weight room during the offseason, Popek is up to 305-pounds and has worked extensively to eliminate the dumb penalties and refine his mechanics at the position. He is the most experienced blocker on an offensive line that will break in a few new starters in 2012 and is expected to take on more of a leadership role as a senior. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
