04/30/2013 - Falcons Add 24 College Free Agents...DE Brandon Thurmond, 6-2, 260 pounds, paced the Arkansas-Pine Bluff defense with 70 tackles (41 solo), 25 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble in 2012. 03/05/2013 - 2013 Arkansas-Pine Bluff Pro Day: Brandon Thurmond, LB (6-foot-1 1/8, 253 pounds) - Thurmond ran the 40 in 4.82 and 4.74 seconds, had a 32-inch vertical jump and 8-foot-11 broad jump, did the three-cone drill in 7.28 seconds and the short shuttle in 4.50 seconds. Thurmond also had 20 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Thurmond is a potential rookie free-agent pickup. In all, 14 athletes worked out at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. 12/08/2012 - A 95-yard touchdown pass from Arkansas-Pine Bluff quarterback Benjamin Anderson to Willie Young with 2 minutes left in regulation forced overtime, and the Lions emerged with a 24-21 victory over Jackson State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game at Legion Field. The winning points for the Lions (10-2) came on Tyler Strickland's 26-yard field goal. Jackson State (7-5) had the ball first in overtime but Ryan Deising's 43-yard field goal attempt was blocked.

Jackson State dominated the first half, outgaining the Lions 270-78, but led only 21-14 at halftime. Clayton Moore threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Rico Richardson and rushed for another score, but his fumble at the end of the first half kept things close. After Moore was hit from behind by linebacker Xavier Lofton, linebacker Bill Ross scooped up the fumble and raced 73 yards for a touchdown with 4 seconds left in the half. - AP Sports

12/05/2012 - 2012 SWAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: UAPB lineman Brandon Thurmond recorded 63 tackles, included 25 tackles for loss, ranking him second in the SWAC, second in NCAA (FCS). He led the nation in sacks with 16.5. 12/05/2012 - Eastern Illinois wide receiver Erik Lora and Arkansas-Pine Bluff defensive lineman Brandon Thurmond headline the 2012 AFCA Football Championship Subdivision Coaches' All-America Team announcedby the American Football Coaches Association. The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best - the coaches themselves.

Lora led the nation in receiving yards per game at 138.67, total receiving yards at 1,664 and receptions per game with 11.33. He caught 12 touchdowns and threw for one touchdown. Thurmond led the nation in sacks with 15.5 and came in third in the nation in tackles for loss with 20. 11/15/2012 - 2012 BUCHANAN AWARD WATCH LIST ADDITION: Arkansas-Pine Bluff DE Brandon Thurmond, a 6-2, 260-pound senior, has flipped the switch in his final season at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, turning into one of the FCS' most productive and dangerous pass rushers. Just one year ago, he had 25 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and five quarterback hurries. In 10 games this season, he's improved in every category, with 56 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, and seven quarterback hurries. He also has three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick. Thanks to the impact of Thurmond, and an improved UAPB defense, the Golden Lions rank first in the SWAC in allowing 16 points per game and second in total defense with 290 yards per contest.
