04/30/2012 - The team spent the rest of the draft partially trading back to increase their picks in the sixth round and their choices for next season. With some dealing that would have made the late Bill Walsh proud, they turned their third pick into five picks. They netted two six-rounders this year, and a third-, fifth- and sixth-round choice in 2013 to go along with an extra seventh-rounder for the Taylor Mays trade to Cincinnati that they made last summer. In the back end of the draft, they selected a play-making defensive back (Trenton Robinson) who could be their fourth safety and took two players (Joe Looney and Jason Slowey) that could help on the interior of their offensive line. - The Sports Xchange

04/30/2012 - A closer look at the 49ers' picks: Round 6/180 -- Trenton Robinson S, 5-10, 195 Michigan State...Will likely become the team's fourth safety. - The Sports Xchange

08/23/2011 - KEYS TO SUCCESS: Michigan State has tremendous offensive skill and a lot of talent and depth on the defensive line. If the defensive back seven comes along as hoped, this can be the best defense Mark Dantonio has fielded. The Spartans are optimistic about LBs such as Chris Norman, Denicos Allen and Max Bullough, and the secondary has a pair of proven veterans in FS Trenton Robinson and CB Johnny Adams. That secondary has very little depth, though, so that's one area in which injuries can't be afforded. - The Sports Xchange

07/12/2011 - 2011 JIM THORPE AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Trenton Robinson, Michigan State, FS, has been named one of 37 players selected to the Preseason Thorpe Award watch list for the 2011 college football season. The Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation's top defensive back, is one of the most coveted awards in college football and is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2011. - The Jim Thorpe Association

05/19/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2011: FS Trenton Robinson - Although Robinson nearly cost Michigan State the Big Ten title by fumbling away what should have been a game-clinching pick in the end zone at Penn State, he also turned into a playmaker as a junior. Robinson finished second in the Big Ten with 12 passes defended, and he should be a vocal leader for the defense as a senior. - The Sports Xchange
