05/12/2014 - A closer look at the Rams' picks: Round 7/241 - Christian Bryant, S, 5-10, 193, Ohio State...Was a three-starter at safety and a team captain last season. However, he suffered a broken ankle against Wisconsin in the fifth game of the season and didn't play again. The Buckeyes defense struggled without his leadership and production. He applied for a medical redshirt, but it was rejected by the NCAA. Bryant is somewhat undersized, but plays aggressively and is very physical. - The Sports Xchange

09/29/2013 - Ohio State loses starting safety for season...Ohio State defeated Wisconsin on Saturday night, but in the process the No. 3 ranked Buckeyes (USA Today poll) lost senior captain and starting safety Christian Bryant for the season. Bryant broke his left ankle with 30 seconds left in the game after tackling Badgers running back James White on a third-down play.

When discussing what Bryant means to his squad, a frustrated Urban Meyer was visibly upset as he pounded the podium. "We lost our captain," the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Meyer saying. "He has a broken ankle, and it's just tough news. It's the hardest part of this whole job, man." Ohio State already has overcome an injury to its offensive leader, quarterback Braxton Miller, who missed almost three full games with a knee injury. The Buckeyes (5-0, 1-0 in the Big Ten) travel to face No. 15 Northwestern (4-0, 0-0) in a primetime conference showdown on Saturday. - The Sports Xchange

09/29/2013 - Team captain and free safety Christian Bryant suffered a broken ankle and will presumably miss the rest of the season. Urban Meyer announced the injury following Ohio State's 31-24 victory over Wisconsin and left the impression Bryant's season is over. "That darn kid has done so much for our program, come so far," Meyer said. "Incredible leadership skills. And he's going to be even more valuable outside of football. I love that guy." Meyer then turned emotional and shouted, "Doggone it!" while pounding the podium with his fist. "Hard part of the game," he said.

Bryant entered the night second on the team in tackles with 21, seven behind team leader Ryan Shazier. The Buckeyes' secondary struggled with the Badgers' receivers, particularly Jared Abbrederis, who had 10 catches for a career-high 205 yards and a touchdown. Now they have to find a new free safety, too, before traveling to Northwestern next week for another night game. Meyer, though, was in no mood to worry about the Wildcats after the game.

"My leader, our leader, is in an ambulance right now going to the hospital to have surgery on his leg. That's the concerning part. ... And he's just devastated," Meyer said. "So that's concern No. 1. Concern probably one, two and three is who is going to fill his spot. Who is going to assume the leadership obligation, responsibility that he has, that he has shown. Incredible young man. His parents should be very, very proud of that guy. I love that guy." - Jason Lloyd, The Akron Beacon Journal

08/14/2013 - OTHER OHIO STATE PROSPECTS WORTH WATCHING: SS Christian Bryant (5-10, 192, 4.46)...Although he's not the biggest or fastest, Bryant is a tough and talented football player who is one of the more underrated Big Ten senior prospects entering the year. A former cornerback, Bryant has lined up mostly at strong safety and nickel defensive back over his time in Columbus and makes his presence known with his aggressive nature and range to cover a lot of ground, playing with a chip on his shoulder. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

07/12/2013 - 2013 JIM THORPE AWARD WATCH LIST: S Christian Bryant, Ohio State...Bryant is coming off a fine junior campaign that saw him earn second-team all-Big Ten Conference honors. His 70 tackles trailed only Ryan Shazier's 115, and his 13 passes defended (12 PBUs and one interception) ranked sixth in the Big Ten. He had five-or-more tackles in nine games last season, including a season-high nine vs. Nebraska. - Ohio State football

07/12/2013 - 2013 BRONKO NAGURSKI TROPHY WATCH LIST: Christian Bryant, Ohio State, DB...Bryant is part of a hard-hitting trio of returning starters in the secondary for the Buckeyes. A true senior, Bryant has played in 31 games and has started 22 times, including all 12 games as a junior when the Buckeyes went 12-0 and were the No. 3 ranked team in the nation. He has been the second- and third-leading tackler on the team the past two years (2012 and 2011, respectively) and his 149 career tackles represent the second-highest total on the team. - Ohio State football
