The Miami Herald reports Rhodes, who would have been a senior this coming season, was arrested just after midnight on Sunday and was charged with discharging a weapon on school property, which is a second-degree felony. The paper also reports Rhodes was charged with three unnamed misdemeanor charges as well. Rhodes led the Panthers in rushing last season with 717 yards and four touchdowns. In the 2011 season, he rushed for 1,149 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 54 passes for 545 yards and another two touchdowns during his career.
Without Rhodes, the Panthers' leading returning rusher will be quarterback Jake Medlock, who rushed for 236 yards and three touchdowns last season. Running back Shane Coleman will likely take over the starting role, and he's coming off a season in which he only had eight carries for 34 yards. - Tom Fornelli, CBSSports.com

11/16/2012 - THIS WEEK'S GAME: FIU at Florida Atlantic, Nov. 16 -- The two schools started their programs a year apart with FAU taking the field for the first time in 2001 and FIU starting in 2002. This will be the Panthers' first appearance in FAU's new on-campus stadium in Boca Raton. KEYS TO THE GAME: Keep cool. There are some hard feelings between the two, no doubt exacerbated by FIU's decision last spring to leave the Sun Belt Conference. The Panthers don't want to give up unnecessary yardage because of penalties.
