04/30/2012 - A closer look at the Colts picks: 5/170 - Vick Ballard, RB, 5-11, 219, Mississippi State...A compactly-built runner, Ballard is expected to be a between-the-tackles type of runner for Indy. Hard-nosed runner who should push for playing time. - The Sports Xchange

01/04/2012 - 2012 SENIOR BOWL INVITE: Mississippi State running back Vick Ballard will look to continue to build off the momentum he built in last night's Music City Bowl with another breakout performance in the 2012 Senior Bowl. "Mississippi State has always been well-represented in the Senior Bowl, and we're excited that Vick will carry on that legacy," Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said. "What he's been able to accomplish in just two short years at Mississippi State is very impressive." Ballard closed out his Mississippi State career with a bang last night, rushing for a career-high 180 yards and scoring on runs of 60 and 72 yards-earning MVP honors in the process. On the year, the Pascagoula native carried the ball 193 times for 1,189 yards and ten touchdowns, accounting for only the 11th 1,000 yard season in school history. He was a second-team All-SEC selection by the Associated Press and finished the regular season ranked fourth in the SEC in rushing yards per game. "It's an honor for me because I know the game is associated with a lot of big name players and just to be associated with those types of players makes me feel great," Ballard said. - SeniorBowl.com

12/30/2011 - Vick Ballard ran for a career-high 180 yards and two touchdowns to lead Mississippi State over Wake Forest 23-17 Friday night in the Music City Bowl-the Bulldogs' fifth straight bowl victory and second consecutive under coach Dan Mullen. The Bulldogs (7-6) capped a season that started with high expectations by winning consecutive bowls for only the second time in school history and first since 1999-2000. Ballard's TDs were the longest in the Bulldogs' 14 bowl games. Mississippi State overcame four turnovers thanks to six sacks-its highest total since piling up seven in a win over Florida in 2000. Wake Forest (6-7) snapped a two-game bowl winning streak. The Demon Deacons of the Atlantic Coast Conference now have lost both bowls against the SEC and finish the season having lost five of their last six games. - AP Sports

12/07/2011 - 2011 ASSOCIATED PRESS ALL-SEC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM: RB - Vick Ballard, Mississippi St., 5-11, 220, Sr., has been selected All-SEC Conference Second Team for the 2011 college football season as voted on by The Associated Press. Ballard earned second-team honors after continuing his run into the school record books. The senior started all 12 games for the Bulldogs, leading the team in rushing with 179 carries for 1,009 yards and eight touchdowns. Ballard also caught 18 passes for 178 yards and a score. The Pascagoula, Miss., native became the 11th player in school history to have 1,000 yards rushing in a season, with his five 100-yard rushing games tying for eighth-most in a single season in school history. Additionally, Ballard was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 166 yards and three touchdowns on just 10 carries in the season-opening win at Memphis, while breaking the school record for yards per carry (16.6). - Mississippi State football

11/26/2011 - Vick Ballard rushed for 144 yards and scored two touchdowns, LaDarius Perkins added two more touchdowns and Mississippi State easily beat Mississippi 31-3 on Saturday night in the Egg Bowl. Mississippi State (6-6, 2-6 Southeastern Conference) now has a three-game winning streak in the Egg Bowl for the first time since 1942 and also earned bowl eligibility for the second straight season. Ole Miss (2-10, 0-8) finished a miserable season that included 10 losses for the first time in program history and ends coach Houston Nutt's four-year tenure. Nutt's resignation was announced on Nov. 7, but he remained to coach the last three games, which the Rebels lost by a combined score of 110-13. Nutt ends with a 24-26 overall record at Ole Miss, including a 10-22 mark in conference games. The Rebels have lost 14 straight SEC games. Third-year Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has injected new life into the rivalry since his arrival in Starkville, with a smack-talking persona that's been backed up with dominant victories. The Bulldogs unveiled new uniforms for Saturday's game, with gold numbers, gold shoes and the phrase `Hail State' replacing each player's last name on the back of the jersey. - AP Sports

11/06/2011 - Vick Ballard rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns to lead Mississippi State to a 55-17 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Saturday night. The Bulldogs (5-4), who never trailed, posted 570 yards of total offense in the game and averaged 8.3 yards per play. Tennessee-Martin (5-4) racked up 454 yards offense, but struggled on third down against Mississippi State's stiff scoring defense. Ballard rushed only 11 times and averaged 9.2 yards a carry. The game was Ballard's fourth 100-yard outing of the season, and his first multi-touchdown performance since the Bulldogs' season opener against Memphis. Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen again used both starter Tyler Russell and senior Chris Relf at quarterback, and both had success. Russell completed 9 of 18 passes for 183 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Relf finished 5 of 6 for 61 yards and threw two touchdowns. - AP Sports

09/29/2011 - SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: State won't make its offensive mark with a high-flying attack from QB Chris Relf and his wide receivers. Not by a long shot. State's bread and butter is with Relf as a runner and Vick Ballard as a running back. State ran for 176 yards against Louisiana Tech, and it was the 27th time in 29 games under coach Dan Mullen that State had rushed for 100 or more yards. - The Sports Xchange

09/29/2011 - That RB Vick Ballard is tied for third in Mississippi State history with 24 rushing touchdowns is impressive enough. So is the fact that he's tied with program luminaries Jackie Parker, John Bond and James Johnson. But most impressive? Ballard is a juco transfer and has done all of this in just 17 games. - The Sports Xchange

09/15/2011 - SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: Things are going well on this end through two games. Just ask the Auburn and Memphis defenses. Mississippi State has gained 1,176 yards, the most ever in a two-game span in the history of the program. RB Vick Ballard and QB Chris Relf continue to be the catalysts. Ballard has gained 301 yards and scored four touchdowns in two games, for instance. - The Sports Xchange

09/15/2011 - LOOKING GOOD: Maybe the play calling and the time management was suspect. But who can argue with the Bulldogs collecting 34 points on the road at Auburn? Here's a telling statistic: Mississippi State had two 100-yard rushers, Chris Relf and Vick Ballard, for only the second time since 1996. Mississippi State has established itself as one of the SEC's premier teams when it comes to running the football, a building block it can use the rest of the season. Ballard's praise normally comes from his bruising running style, but he made his mark Saturday in the receiving game, too. Ballard caught a career-best five passes for 64 yards. Oh, and he rushed for 135 yards, too. - The Sports Xchange

09/10/2011 - ROB RANG'S WEEK 2 FIVE PROSPECTS TO WATCH: RB Vick Ballard, Mississippi State: Ballard served notice immediately against Memphis last week (career-high 166 yards and three TDs) that his first season for the Bulldogs (994 yards, 19 TDs) was no fluke after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The sledding will be tougher Saturday against the defending champion Auburn Tigers, which survived a scare last week from Utah State. Ballard has good size (5-11, 220) and power, but still has to answer concerns about his speed. This game begins at 12:20 pm ET and will be televised by ESPN3 and The SEC Network. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

09/09/2011 - WEEK 2 FIVE ON THE SPOT: 5. Mississippi State RB Vick Ballard...The Bulldogs put a beat down on Memphis last week with Ballard (166 yards, three touchdowns) and QB Chris Relf (13-for-21, 202 yards, two TD) playing well. Auburn's defense won't be happy their performance against Utah State in the near-upset at home (they gave up 38 points and 448 yards of offense), so this weekend's match-up will be difficult for MSU head coach Dan Mullen's squad. Last season, 5-10, 220-pound Ballard had five carries for 13 yards and a score against Auburn. He'll need a bigger performance on Saturday for his team to win, and for scouts to think he's capable of putting up numbers against better defenses than Memphis. The Tigers offered Ballard a lot of room at the second level, of which he took full advantage with a good burst once feeling his way through zone blocks at the line. This week's group of Tigers are more likely to put up a fight inside. - Chad Reuter, NFLDraftScout.com

09/07/2011 - THIS WEEK'S GAME: Mississippi State at Auburn, Sept. 10 - The Bulldogs travel to take on the Tigers in the first meeting between the two programs since the bad blood of the Cam Newton saga. But there's plenty at stake this year, too. Mississippi State can serve notice that it plans to contend for the West with a win. KEYS TO THE GAME: Auburn scored in quick bursts to beat Utah State, so State's defense should be on guard. The Bulldogs don't need to deviate too much on their standard game plan: Let Chris Relf and Vick Ballard slice and dice. Don't gift-wrap anything for the Tigers to let their home fans get into the game more than they already will be. PLAYERS TO WATCH: RB Vick Ballard picked up where he left off from last season with a stellar performance in the Bulldogs' win over Memphis. If in his senior year he is to stake a claim among the league's elite running backs, the Auburn game would be a dandy place to start. - The Sports Xchange

09/05/2011 - SEC WEEK 1 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Vick Ballard, Running Back, Mississippi State, rushed for a career-best 166 yards and three touchdowns in Mississippi State's 59-14 win at Memphis...Ballard scored three touchdowns for the fifth time in his 13 career games at State...His touchdown runs were for 46, 66 and 1 yard...Ballard paced a Bulldog rushing attack that finished with 309 yards rushing against the Tigers...Ballard leads the SEC and is fifth in the nation in rushing, averaging 166 yards per game. - SEC football

09/01/2011 - Vick Ballard rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns and No. 20 Mississippi State easily handled Memphis 59-14 on Thursday night at the Liberty Bowl. Mississippi State dominated from the start, taking a 31-7 lead after gaining 405 total yards in the first half. Things slowed down a little after that, but the Bulldogs still finished with a school-record 645 total yards. Ballard had touchdown runs of 46 and 66 yards in the first half. He added a 1-yard touchdown early in the third quarter and averaged 16.6 yards per carry. Chris Relf completed 13 of 21 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns for MSU (1-0). He also rushed for 51 yards. Jameon Lewis caught four passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. The Bulldogs have won 12 straight games against Memphis (0-1), dating back to 1993. - AP Sports

09/01/2011 - RB Vick Ballard and DB Charles Mitchell were chosen as State's team captains by a vote of the players. - The Sports Xchange

09/01/2011 - Entering last year's season opener against Memphis, Mississippi State wasn't quite sure what it had at running back. Needing to replace Anthony Dixon, who by then was on the verge of his pro debut with the San Francisco 49ers, the Bulldogs essentially had four different options. But heading into this year's season opener against the Tigers? A much different and a much more comforting story for State coach Dan Mullen. "I felt good about the situation going into last year, but we hadn't seen them do it in games," Mullen said. "But now I've seen those guys do it in games. So we feel good about that situation." The running situation revolves chiefly around a pair of backs: senior Vick Ballard and sophomore LaDarius Perkins. Ballard is more of the workhorse, feature-style back. He scored a school-record 19 rushing touchdowns last year. Perkins is smaller, shiftier and faster. He's a nice complement to Ballard's style and gives the Bulldogs a speedy change of pace. - The Sports Xchange
