Still, they like Lawson's speed (4.5, though he plays faster, according to general manager Martin Mayhew) and his toughness. 11/11/2013 - WEEK 11 MOUNTAIN WEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Utah State CB Nevin Lawson...Lawson, a 5-10, 186-pounder from Lauderhill, Fla. (Piper HS) recorded four tackles, including one for loss, to go along with two pass breakups and one interception in USU's 28-24 win against UNLV last weekend. Lawson's interception was in the end zone early in the third quarter with the Rebels leading 17-14, while his tackle for loss was on a fake field goal in the second quarter. He also posted both of his pass breakups inside USU's 30 yard-line on UNLV's last drive of the game.

On the season, Lawson ranks second in the Mountain West and fourth in the nation with an average of 1.70 passes defended per game, and is tied for fourth in the MW and tied for 37th in the nation with 0.40 interceptions per game. 10/14/2013 - WEEK 7 MOUNTAIN WEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Utah State CB Nevin Lawson...Playing without four of its offensive starters, Utah State was stopped by Boise State, 34-23, Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium. Utah State suffered its second-straight loss in falling to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West action.

The Aggie defense also snared two interceptions off Boise State quarterback Joe Southwick, the first time in his career with multiple interceptions. Senior cornerback Nevin Lawson snared both, returning one 65-yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Lawson, who also had a career-best five passes defended and tied his career-high with nine tackles, now has five career interceptions, including three this season. - Utah State football
