Career Notes
Corey "Philly" Brown has been one of the most valuable players on the team over the course of the last two seasons ... he led (or tied) for the team lead in receiving in each of the last three seasons and in the process became just the second Ohio State receiver to have consecutive seasons of at least 60 receptions (David Boston; 1997-98) ... twice named the team's Paul Warfield award winner as outstanding receiver ... his 63 receptions in 2013 are the fifth-most in school history, as are his 145 career receptions ... his 1,750 receiving yards (14th) and 15 career touchdowns (12th) also rank among the school leaders ... played in 48 games and started 35 times ... one of eight players chosen by teammates to represent the team as game captains in 2013 ... majoring in criminology.
2013 Season
There are two seniors from Pennsylvania named Corey Brown on the team ... this is Corey Brown the receiver, from Upper Darby, Pa. (just outside of Philadelphia), who likes to be called by his name "Corey" although most everyone refers to him as "Philly" ... the other Corey Brown is a defensive back from Monroeville, Pa. (near Pittsburgh) and likes being called "Pitt" ... anyway, Corey the wide receiver has made a name for himself in his three years at Ohio State, earning the Paul Warfield Award as the team's outstanding receiver in 2011 and again in 2012 while catching 82 career passes for 979 yards and five touchdowns ... he is among the Top 25 receivers at Ohio State in career receptions (22nd) and another season like he had last year, when he caught 60 passes for 669 yards and was named second-team all-Big Ten Conference, will position him among the Top 5 receivers in school history.
2012 Season
Corey rushed 11 times for 96 yards last season (8.7 average), and he also established himself as a vaunted special teamer, ranking first in the Big Ten and 16th nationally in punt returns with an average of 12.3 yards per return, including game-breaking touchdown returns of 76 yards vs. Nebraska and 68 yards in the overtime win over Wisconsin ... he was named Big Ten special teams player of the week after both of those games, and he was honored by the team with its Ike Kelley outstanding special teams award at season's end ... Corey's three receiving touchdowns in 2012 included a fine, 37-yarder vs. Illinois when he broke one tackle and forced two other potential tacklers to miss, and a 14-yard catch-and-dash to the pylon against Michigan, part of an eight-catch game for a career-best 95 receiving yards ... Corey also tied the fourth-best game in Ohio State history with 12 receptions vs. Michigan State, a total that was the most in 15 years for a Buckeye ... as a sophomore in 2011, Corey tied for the team lead with 14 receptions for 205 yards and one touchdown ... he capped the season with two catches for a then-career-high 76 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown reception, vs. Michigan.
2011 Season
Started nine times in 2011, missing four other games with an ankle issue ... he played in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2010 ... he scored a TD on a 15-yard reception in 2010 vs. Purdue ... he was the recipient of the team's outstanding first-year offensive player award.
High School
A criminology major, Corey was an Under Armour All-American following his high school career at Cardinal O'Hara, located just outside of Philadelphia ... rushed for over 3,000 yards and had over 1,500 yards receiving and was twice an all-state selection ... also scored 50 touchdowns for coach Dan Algeo ... all-state in track, as well, and held county 200-meter dash record of 21.4 upon graduation.
Is the son of Delene Williams.
