2014 NFL Draft prospect CB Bradley Roby charged with OVI in Ohio
Bradley Roby, a potential first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, is facing an OVI charge in Ohio.
Former Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby is facing a charge in Columbus, Ohio, of operating a vehicle impaired (OVI), according to online documents filed with Franklin County Municipal Court.
The charge stems from an April 20 incident when police in Columbus received a report about a man being passed out in a car. When authorities arrived on the scene, they were unable to get the driver's attention, according to a police report obtained by WBNS-TV in Columbus. At that point, officers opened an unlocked car door and noticed an odor of alcohol.
Another officer was then called to the scene to conduct a field sobriety test, a test that Roby failed. Roby is scheduled to be arraigned on April 25.
Roby's agent, Michael Perrett, released a statement to ElevenWarriors.com saying that he expects the case to be 'resolved quickly and favorably for Bradley.'
This past weekend my client Bradley Roby was issued a citation in Columbus, Ohio for operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI). Bradley was sitting in his parked car in a parking lot when he was approached and questioned by an officer. He was fully cooperative and willingly submitted to field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. His BAC test registered a negligible .008 and after further testing at the police station, he was very quickly released on his own recognizance. There are no other charges, and we are confident that this matter will be resolved quickly and favorably for Bradley. However, as the matter is still pending, we cannot comment further at this time.
If Roby doesn't win this case, it could create issues in a prior arrest. The Buckeye corner was arrested in July 2013 and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct after getting in a bar fight. That case was conditionally dismissed in August with the understanding that Roby would complete a diversion program that requires him to avoid legal trouble until Aug. 16, 2014.
Roby was suspended for Ohio State's 2013 season opener after that incident.
The former Buckeye announced in November that he was forgoing his senior year to enter the NFL Draft. Roby is one of 30 players expected to be at Radio City Music Hall in New York on May 8 when the draft begins.
Roby is currently projected as a first-round prospect, who's slotted as high as 10th in CBSSports.com's latest round of mock drafts.
