2015 Pro Bowl will be held in Arizona, 2016 back in Hawaii
The 2015 Pro Bowl will be played in Arizona, with the 2016 Pro Bowl returning to Hawaii.
The NFL is moving the Pro Bowl ... for one year anyway. The annual NFL all-star game will take place in Arizona in 2015, the league announced Wednesday.
The 2015 Pro Bowl will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona, home of the Cardinals -- the same site as Super Bowl XLIX -- and broadcast live on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET.
It's a pretty logical move, frankly, with Super Bowl XLIX being held in Arizona in February of 2015. While Phoenix isn't Honolulu, it is a nice enough place for a vacation and it allows Pro Bowl players to minimize travel plans around the Super Bowl.
However, the Pro Bowl will return to Hawaii after the 2015 season. With Super Bowl L -- the 50th Super Bowl -- set to be played in the 49ers new stadium, the Pro Bowl will take place on Sunday, January 31, 2016 in Aloha Stadium in Hawaii.
The league also noted in the release it has an agreement with the State of Hawaii to play the Pro Bowl in Honolulu after the 2016 season but would announce the date of that game later.
The Pro Bowl was allegedly on its last legs as recently as this past season. But the NFL forged ahead with the all-star event and it paid off.
According to the release, 11.4 million viewers watched the Pro Bowl in 2014, making it "the most-watched all-star game in all of sports the past four years."
