2017 NFL Draft Grades: Falcons get A for Takk McKinley, who honors grandmother
The Falcons traded up to take the pass-rusher at No. 26
With the No. 26 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons selected linebacker Takkarist McKinley from UCLA, who promptly went viral with his dedication to his late grandmother during his draft pick.
McKinley talked about how he made a promise to make it to the NFL to his grandmother and brought her picture on stage with him as he held his Falcons jersey up in the sky.

During an emotional interview with Deion Sanders on NFL Network, McKinley dropped a word you can't say on television that begins with F and immediately realized it.
He paused briefly, exclaimed "Fine me later!" and continued on with the interview, which ended with a hug from Deion.

Atlanta Falcons
Pete Prisco's Grade: A
"Love this pick. This kid has big-time edge-rush ability, and while he does have medical issues, he should be OK."
Instant analysis
After coughing up a 25-point lead in the Super Bowl, the Falcons were definitely going to try to add some help in the pass rush. McKinley was a sleeper coming into 2016 and sounded the alarm clock in very loud fashion, waking up anyone who was dozing on him by recording 10 sacks and 18 tackles for a loss in 2016. He's an explosive athlete who can make an impact in rushing the passer right off the bat. He did have some injuries beforehand that would concern teams but still remains an elite prospect.
Fantasy impact
"The Falcons trade up to take linebacker Takkarist McKinley, and he is a great pass rusher to play opposite Vic Beasley. This helps the Falcons DST, and they are now a unit to keep an eye on during the season as a waiver wire addition." -- Jamey Eisenberg
NFL comparison
Tamba Hali: An athletic freak who can get after the passer. Not a terrible comp to get at all from NFL.com. Dane Brugler drops the Whitney Mercilus comp. Either one would be a fantastic pick this late.
