2024 NFL head coaching search tracker: Live updates, rumors, hirings, rumblings for seven vacancies

There are currently seven head coach openings and many viable candidates

The regular season is over, which means 18 of the NFL's 32 teams are done for the year and it also means it's time to turn our attention toward the league's ever-changing coaching carousel where we currently have seven vacancies after Jerod Mayo replaced Bill Belichick as the New England Patriots head coach on Friday.

Other franchises looking for a head coach are: Carolina Panthers, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Los Angeles Chargers -- all of whom fired their coaches midseason. Then there are the Atlanta Falcons, who fired Arthur Smith on Sunday evening just after midnight; the Washington Commanders, who moved on from Ron Rivera on Monday; and the Tennessee Titans, who parted ways with Mike Vrabel on Tuesday.

It should be a wild hiring cycle with so many teams seeking a new coach and so many great options like Belichick, Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik, Vrabel, and possibly Jim Harbaugh available. Stay locked here for all the latest rumors, rumblings and hirings as they trickle in.

According to ESPN, Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds met with the Raiders Friday, will meet with the Panthers Sunday and then the Chargers on Wednesday.

NFL Media reports that it's believed the Chargers will speak with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh next week. The Chargers are also looking for a GM. Harbaugh will reportedly not force a GM hire, as he understands the structure of NFL buildings has changed.

One of the Raiders' best players just made a statement to the franchise. Saturday, NFL Media reported that All-Pro pass rusher Maxx Crosby will request a trade if Antonio Pierce is not hired to be the full-time head coach.

The Raiders appear focused on the GM search right now, but Mark Davis has a tough decision to make. NFL Media also reports that the Raiders are considering a potential pursuit of Jim Harbaugh

Raiders interim HC Antonio Pierce will interview for the Titans' HC vacancy this weekend, per NFL Media. An interesting target considering they just parted with a defensive-minded coach in Mike Vrabel. And also interesting from Pierce's perspective, if Las Vegas is in fact targeting bigger, more proven names such as Jim Harbaugh.

Here's a look at our rankings of which NFL head coaching jobs are the most valued. Without giving anything away, one would think that the Patriots' position isn't high on the list. They're coming off a 4-win season and play in one of the NFL's toughest divisions.

Interesting nugget from Robert Kraft's presser. The Patriots considered trading Belichick but ultimately decided not to, giving BB the opportunity to pursue whatever opportunity he wants.
