49ers' Carlos Hyde 'ready to go' for offseason activities after foot surgery
The 49ers running back, who missed nine games last year, is fully recovered from a foot injury that plagued him in 2015.
It probably seems like forever ago, but remember the first Monday night of the 2015 NFL season? The 49ers and Vikings filled the late-night slot and grinded through a sloppy game. Surprisingly, the 49ers came away with a win over the Vikings -- a result that proved to be even more surprising as the season progressed.
One big reason for that 49ers win and one big reason that win provided (what turned out to be unwarranted) optimism for the 49ers' season was Carlos Hyde. In that game, Hyde rushed for 168 yards, averaged 6.5 yards per carry, and scored twice. He was electric.

Unfortunately, Hyde's season was cut short. He appeared in just seven games. He eventually underwent surgery after suffering from a stress fracture in his foot. In seven games, Hyde rushed for 470 yards and found the end zone three times. So, clearly, he did most of his damage in that Week 1 win.
So, the good news: Hyde is finally healthy, giving him a chance to prove that his 168-yard performance wasn't a fluke.
"My foot is feeling great," Hyde said Wednesday, via the 49ers' official website. "I'm good to go."
He provided further clarification of what "good" means.
"If we played tomorrow," Hyde said, "I'd be ready to go."
Hyde also lost weight this offseason, dropping seven pounds after weighing 232 pounds at the start of last season. He denied, however, that he only lost the weight to prepare for Chip Kelly's up-tempo system -- a system that struggled to get the most out of DeMarco Murray last season. Still, Hyde indicated that he's excited to play for Kelly while Kelly previously gushed over Hyde, calling him "a big, physical back who has that combination of size and speed."
