When the VikingsAdrian Peterson was asked last week about gay marriage and said, “I'm not with that,” we could have imagined his answer to the question: “So, how would you feel about having a gay teammate?”

Instead, Peterson now says he would be OK playing with a gay teammate but also admitted it might make him a little uncomfortable.

Overall, the NFL’s reigning leading rusher and former Oklahoma star said a gay teammate “really wouldn't bother me that much.” But …

“Simple things, as far as showers and things like that, you know, of course, anyone would be uncomfortable,” Peterson said Monday on a visit to Tulsa, Okla., via the Oklahoman. “But you know, I'm a grown man. There's things that I can deal with. I'm comfortable in my skin."

Considering his stance last week, the latest statement is a little surprising. Here’s what he said then:

"I have relatives who are gay," Peterson said on Sirius XM radio. "I'm not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love 'em. But again, I'm not with that. That's not something I believe in. But to each his own."

The topic of marriage equality in Minnesota has heated up recently, especially after Gov. Mark Dayton last month signed a bill that made same-sex marriage legal. But Dayton also wondered recently if former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe, who has since signed with the Raiders, was released by the team after being too outspoken about issues like marriage equality.

Either way, Peterson seems OK with playing with somebody who’s gay.

“I'll still high-five them,” he said. “Pat them on the butt when he's doing good and go on about my business.”
