Adrian Peterson reiterates he's 'clean' but some players use HGH
Adrian Peterson said, again, on Friday that he's "clean," "all natural" but that there are people in the NFL using HGH.
Were it not for some other NFL-related activity on June 26, you might've spent part of your day watching Pete Prisco's outstanding video with superstar running back Adrian Peterson. In that video, which you can watch above, Prisco asked AP about getting an edge to return from injury and Peterson adamantly stated that he was completely clean.
On Friday in Mankato at the Vikings training camp, Peterson reiterated that he's completely clean and actually said he was excited about having his blood drawn (!).
''I can't wait until they draw my blood,'' Peterson told reporters, via the Associated Press. "To be honest with you, I've been hoping they did this a long time ago, you know, evening out the playing field and make guys be honest and truthful to themselves. I'm all natural. I work hard. This right here, it's a test for me personally, that I know that, 'Hey, I'm clean as a whistle.'"
But Peterson doesn't believe that everyone else in the NFL is clean, stating that he thinks HGH is certainly being used in the NFL and that he's enthused about HGH testing.
"You've got guys out there trying to provide for their families, they're going to try to get that edge, get that advantage, especially if they're not worried about trying to get caught.
"Yeah, it's being used.''
And once the NFL and NFLPA are able to institute the testing, Peterson believes it will quickly show which guys were using the PED to gain an advantage.
"It will bring some guys to the forefront and be like, hey, I guess this is how this guy has been performing so well," Peterson said.
Look, I'm inclined to agree with Peterson completely here. I can't speak to what he does personally and I understand it's difficult in this day and age to believe anyone, especially someone who recovers from such a devastating injury so quickly. Peterson's just a freak though.
As for other players using it? There's almost no doubt -- I would guess that across every single physical sport there are athletes who use every edge available to them in order to try and improve their ability to provide for their families and generate income.
The NFL is no different, which is why it'll certainly be interesting to see what happens if and when the league is able to implement testing.
