After 49ers tight end Vernon Davis got rocked by Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor in the first half of Sunday night’s game while trying to make a catch, Davis has returned to the locker room and is out for the game with a concussion.

The play occurred when 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick tried to hit Davis on the sideline with 21 seconds left in the first quarter, but Chancellor smacked him in a shoulder-to-chest collision that forced the ball out of Davis’ grasp and left him wide-eyed on the field afterward.

Though replays showed that the play appeared to be clean, Chancellor was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness on a defenseless receiver. Four plays later, the Seahawks blocked David Akers’ field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown to take a 21-0 lead.

Luckily, Chancellor was getting Twitter support from somebody who knows something about illegal hits.
