Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin had a fantastic end to the 2012 season, averaging 5.5 catches and 95 yards in the four Baltimore postseason games with four touchdowns, including the first one of the game in Super Bowl XLVII.
Though he’s scheduled to play the 2013 season for a base salary of $6 million in the final year of his contract (and about $7.5 million against the salary cap), Boldin is looking ahead to the possibility of playing for a team somewhere other than Baltimore. And he says he’s not going to do it.
“I definitely expect to be back,” Boldin told Jim Rome on Friday. “I have another year left on my deal. I’ll have to retire a Raven. That’s just the way it is.”
More from Boldin: “I love the organization, love the fan base, love the team. I’m not playing anywhere else.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Baltimore keeps him around for next season, or if the Ravens will force Boldin to back up his words about not playing for anybody else.
As NFL.com’s Albert Breer detailed, the flat salary cap potentially will have a big impact on the Ravens roster for next season. Boldin’s impact on the cap, while not as great as players like Terrell Suggs and Haloti Ngata, is still the third-biggest hit on the team.
For a receiver who will turn 33 next October, that kind of money might be too rich for the Ravens to pay unless both sides agree to restructure his deal to make it more cap friendly. According to The Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson, the team has not yet approached Boldin about doing so.
