Bears terminate contract of WR Earl Bennett
Receiver Earl Bennett won't play for the Bears next season.
Bennett, a third-round pick who's been with the Bears for his entire six-year career, was an effective receiver for Chicago in 2009 and 2010 when he caught 54 and 46 passes, respectively. But he's fallen down the depth chart behind Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, and it sounds like he was in danger of losing his No. 3 receiver job to second-year player Marquess Wilson.
As ESPN Chicago notes, Bennett took a paycut before the 2013 season, lowering his salary by $1 million
With the move Tuesday, the team saves $2.45 million on the salary cap, and now, Bennett could look for a better opportunity. Like, ahem, in Carolina.
