Bengals DB Adam 'Pacman' Jones pleads not guilty to assault charge
Bengals defensive back Adam 'Pacman' Jones entered a plea of not guilty to an assault charge in court on Tuesday. In the 911 call, the alleged victim says that Jones punched her in the head.
As the old saying goes, "There are three sides to every story: Yours, mine and the truth."
Bengals cornerback Adam Jones is finding that out the hard way this week. The 29-year-old defensive back pleaded not guilty to an assault charge on Tuesday. The charge stems from a June 5 incident during which Jones allegedly struck a woman at a Cincinnati bar.
In the 911 call obtained by the Cincinnati Enquirer, the alleged victim said that she was "punched in the head by a Bengals player named Pacman Jones outside a bar."
"I want him arrested," she said.
Here's the alleged victim's description of the incident: "It happened really fast. He was harassing my friends and saying derogatory things towards my friend and I stood up to him and he called me a 'bitch' and punched me in the head."
Jones admitted to slapping the woman, but he said it was to protect himself after she allegedly threw a beer bottle at him from close range.
Just got arrestedfor protecting myself, I will not let this break me or change what I have work so hard for ....— ADAm Pacman Jones (@REALPACMAN24) June 10, 2013
Of course, there is a third version to this incident and it comes from the security footage that was released on Monday. And this is where things get murky. The footage definitely doesn't show anyone throwing a bottle at Jones, but it does show the alleged victim pouring beer on him. After that happens, Jones appears to retaliate by throwing a punch.
Did Jones go too far? You can watch the video at the top of the page and decide for yourself. Jones shows up in the scene at about the 50-second mark.
This is Jones' second arrest since joining the Bengals. He was also arrested in July, 2011 for disorderly conduct at a Cincinnati bar. Jones pleaded guilty in that case but wasn't punished by the Bengals or the NFL.
