Bill Belichick says Jets also used FG push play Sunday

The Patriots-Jets rivalry is fun, isn't it? The latest installment of RidiculousNounGate comes in the form of the "Field Goal Push" rule the Patriots were flagged for during Sunday's victory by the Jets. With a 56-yard field goal coming, Pats rookie defensive tackle Chris Jones was flagged for falling off the line of scrimmage and shoving a teammate into the offensive line.

It's become increasingly clear that Rex Ryan's team warned the officials such a thing might happen leading up to the game or in the game itself. And it's pretty obvious they know about the play. Bill Belichick even pointed out Tuesday that the Jets used it themselves.

"Well, I mean, since they were using the play themselves, I don't even know about all that," Belichick said. "But basically we're just moving on here.''

Belichick's obviously still miffed that Ryan got the better of him here. It was a savvy move to put the officials on alert and it ended up setting Nick Folk up for a reasonable game-winning field goal.

Newsday's Kimberly Martin took a look at the tape and, sure enough, saw Jets defensive lineman Quinton Coples pushing Muhammad Wilkerson into the Patriots offensive line during Stephen Gostkowski's game-tying field goal at the end of regulation.

Coples vehemently denied that to be the case.

"There was no film or footage of that to prove we did that,'' Coples said.

And he actually sounded a little peeved that Belichick would bring it back up (which is exactly why Belichick would bring it back up in the first place).

"We beat the Patriots,'' Coples said. "We move forward. They can say whatever. We won. We beat them. We won't see them no more this regular season. We're moving forward as far as Cincinnati."

For his part, Rex continues to deny that the Jets alerted the refs about the incident in question, but you can bet that he'll be interrogated as to his knowledge of his team participating in a similar play at a similar time, one that wasn't caught by the officials.

Don't let anyone ever tell you it's not a game of inches.
