On Thursday, Bills running back Fred Jackson practiced with the team and coach Chan Gailey said that "I think if we make it through the next couple of days and continue to improve, I think he'll have the opportunity to play."
A couple of days later, and Jackson will indeed play against the Patriots, three weeks after suffering a sprained knee in a season-opening loss to the Jets. A team source tells CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora that Jackson will wear a knee brace in Sunday's game.
Meanwhile, the Bills' other franchise back, C.J. Spiller, remains a game-time decision after spraining his shoulder in last week's win over the Browns. While Spiller's fate won't be known until warm-ups, Jackson is preparing for a regular role.
"[The doctor] said as long as I feel like I'm capable of going, he's going to support what I do," Jackson said Friday. The sixth-year back isn't afraid of aggravating the injury, either.
"There's always going to be a risk; you always have to be aware of that," he said. "But that's part of the game. That could happen this week; it could happen Week 13. So just go out there and play."
