Bills sign Matt Flynn
Matt Flynn signed with the Bills the team announced on Monday.
Desperate times call for desperate measures and the Buffalo Bills, desperate for quarterback help, have signed free agent Matt Flynn.
Buffalo thought they had the answer for their short- and long-term quarterback plans when they drafted EJ Manuel in the first round this year, but Manuel sprained his LCL and will miss a few weeks. (The Bills note he's out "indefinitely" in their release, which is ... interesting.)
Unsure if Jeff Tuel could handle the starting gig, the Bills promoted Thaddeus Lewis, who nearly helped them beat the Bengals on Sunday. Unfortunately Lewis suffered an injury and, so, enter Flynn.
Flynn's story is pretty well known at this point. He had a monster game for the Packers against the Lions at the end of 2011 and parlayed that into a contract with the Seahawks the next offseason. Russell Wilson beat out Flynn, who was eventually traded to the Raiders where he lost the starting job to Terrelle Pryor (but not before getting a little more guaranteed coin).
With Pryor looking good Oakland release Flynn and he looked poised to become a backup somewhere else. But the Bills badly needed quarterback help and inked him to a deal on Monday.
The Bills will keep four quarterbacks on the roster going forward, with Manuel, Flynn, Tuel and Lewis.
