Everyone that follows professional football knows about the long, pained saga the Cleveland Browns have gone through to find a quarterback. They've run through such luminaries as Tim Couch, Ty Detmer, Spergon Wynn, Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson, Ken Dorsey, Brady Quinn, Colt McCoy, Brandon Weeden, Johnny Manziel, and more over the years, and this season they've got two more new quarterbacks that might be added to the saddest list in NFL history.
One of those quarterbacks appears to be making an impression on his teammates at OTAs, and it might surprise to know that the surprising -- in a good way! -- quarterback is our old friend Brock Osweiler, last seen being run out of Houston after one of the worst starting quarterback seasons in recent memory.
Brock Osweiler has impressed. One Browns player privately predicted he "wouldn't be surprised if Brock is QB1 heading into camp in July."

Being named QB1 of the 2017 Browns heading into training camp is not exactly the greatest accomplishment the world has ever seen, but any level of impressive performance is a step up from where Osweiler was last season. He completed just 59 percent of his passes, averaged 5.8 yards per attempts, and had a negative touchdown-to-interception ratio.
The Texans still managed to go 8-6 in his 14 starts, but that was almost entirely on the strength of their defense. Cleveland's defense should be improved from a year ago but almost certainly will not perform to the level of Houston's 2016 bunch. If Osweiler does end up winning the job and keeps up the same level of performance from last year, or even if he gets only slightly better, he still seems pretty likely to lose it at some point, whether to Cody Kessler or Kevin Hogan or even rookie DeShone Kizer.
