The Denver Broncos registered an impressive 27-13 victory over the New York Giants in Week 1, but almost suffered a huge loss. In the third quarter, wide receiver Jerry Jeudy went down with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury and was carted off the field. However, his X-Rays came back negative, and it will not be a season-ending injury.
Jeudy was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, but he will still miss several weeks. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Jeudy is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, but Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said that it's too early to try to establish a recovery timetable for him at this point.
"Everything else checked out good," Fangio said, via NFL.com. "He's going to miss some time. It's hard to put a timetable on it right now."
With how bad Jeudy's injury looked, it wouldn't be surprising if his recovery took a bit longer than your average high ankle sprain would, and he's definitely a candidate for injured reserve. Despite leaving the game early, the former Alabama star led Denver in receiving with six catches for 72 yards.
The No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft caught 52 passes for 856 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season. While he struggled with drops at times, Jeudy has tremendous upside and was going to be one of Teddy Bridgewater's top targets this season. With him sidelined, expect to see Tim Patrick and K.J. Hamler receive more touches out wide, as Courtland Sutton also continues to rebound after missing last season with a torn ACL.
