Browns name Lombardi VP in charge of player personnel
The Cleveland Browns hired former Eagles and Raiders executive Michael Lombardi as vice president in charge of player personnel. Lombardi will report to new team president Joe Banner.
The Cleveland Browns have hired Michael Lombardi as a vice president, the team announced Friday.
Lombardi, who has strong ties to Browns president Joe Banner, was a strong favorite to land the position and formally interviewed for the job this week, sources said.
Lombardi was named VP of Player Personnel and will report to Banner, who has the highest position in the organization under new owner Jimmy Haslam. Lombardi was a finalist for the 49ers' job a few years back, when Trent Baalke was named GM, and has worked for the Raiders and Eagles previously, as well (he worked under Banner in Philadelphia).
The Browns also interviewed Ray Farmer, an executive with the Chiefs, for the position, and Banner said recently there were six candidates in all for the position.
