Browns sign No. 1 pick Myles Garrett to deal reportedly worth $30.4M guaranteed
Garrett gets a nine percent pay bump over what last year's top pick, Jared Goff, earned
The Browns have signed 2017 first-overall pick Myles Garrett, the team announced Friday. It's a four-year fully guaranteed deal worth $30.4 million, including a $20.25 million signing bonus, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
By comparison, 2016 No. 1 pick Jared Goff signed a four-year deal worth a fully guaranteed $27.9 million, including a $18.5 million signing bonus. Unlike Goff, who is subject to a 13.3 percent income tax in California, Ohio's income tax tops out at 4.9 percent.
"You see that fire that's burning inside him to be great and I think those are the hallmarks of guys that have a chance to be really excellent football players,'' Thomas said this week, via Cleveland.com. "He's shown an interest in learning and I'm a player that really likes to try to help teach and impart any wisdom that I've gotten over the ages on some of those young guys. So it will be fun for me, too, to be able to try to help as best as I can and try to get him to think like an offensive tackle and hopefully turn him into the great player I think he can be."
Garrett's first order of business once the regular-season gets underway? Shortly after he was drafted he told ESPN's Randy Moss that "I'm going to try to take [Ben Roethlisberger] down," adding that he's been following the Steelers quarterback's career for "a very long time" and "I can't wait to face him."
