Former Vikings coach Leslie Frazier, fired only a week ago, officially has a new job. The Buccaneers on Monday night announced new coach Lovie Smith had hired Frazier as his defensive coordinator.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Leslie Frazier and I consider myself very fortunate to have him on my staff,” Smith said in a statement. “Leslie is one of the best defensive coaches in the NFL and he has a long track record of helping players reach their full potential. He transformed Minnesota’s defense into one of the league’s elite units during his time there and I look forward to working with him to do the same here in Tampa Bay.”

Frazier was fired from Minnesota after going 21-32-1 in his four seasons there, though he led the Vikings to the playoffs last season. Before that, he coordinated defenses for the Bengals and Vikings before replacing Brad Childress as the head coach in Minnesota.

"Leslie Frazier, just a great leader," Smith said during his introductory press conference. "It was a no brainer really to get him, for us to merge together. We always wanted to work together."
