By the numbers: Bengals' 31 second-quarter points a team record

Before Week 11, only 13 teams in NFL history had ever scored at least 31 points in the second quarter. The last time it happened? The New England Patriots in November of 2012, scored 35 in the second quarter vs. the New York Jets .

On Sunday, Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton had thrown two interceptions in the first quarter, including one pick-6, which made for a total of eight interceptions in the previous nine quarters of action. Things weren't looking great for the Bengals, to say the least.

The Bengals were losing 13-0 and seemingly were on their way to another disappointing defeat and a season sweep by Cleveland.

Instead, the second quarter began, and 15 minutes of game action later, Cincinnati had scored 31 points, a franchise record for the number of points in any quarter.

As you can see here, only 13 teams had done this before, and as for the all-time mark for points in a quarter? That honor goes to the Packers, who scored 41 in the second quarter vs. the Lions in 1945, matched by the Los Angeles Rams in the third quarter against the Lions in 1950.

Here was Cleveland Browns coach Rob Chudzinski's reaction to the Bengals output Sunday.

Indeed. Here are some other fun numbers from the game.

-The previous second-quarter record for the franchise was the 28 the Bengals scored vs. the Detroit Lions in 1989. That, along with a four-touchdown outburst in the fourth quarter of their 61-17 win against the Oilers in 1972, was also the overall team record for most points in a quarter.

-Cincinnati now has three blocked kicks this season, the first time that's happened since 1991, via the Bengals.

-During that second quarter, the Bengals still only gained 108 yards of total offense. The points came via two Dalton touchdown passes (one to tight end Jermaine Gresham and one to receiver Mohamed Sanu ), a blocked punt return, a fumble return and a field goal.

By the numbers

2: The number of starting quarterbacks used by the Green Bay Packers from Sept. 27, 1992 through Dec. 12, 2010, via Michael David Smith. From Nov. 4 through Nov. 17 of this year, Green Bay has used three starting quarterbacks.

3: The number of organizations that have employed running back Bobby Rainey this season. He was released by the Baltimore Ravens in the preseason before signing with the Browns. After he played six games in Cleveland, he was cut again. Then he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers  and on Sunday he rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries while catching another touchdown pass.

9: The number of games this season the Philadelphia Eagles offense has accumulated at least 400 total yards, via the team. That is a franchise record, and some of that credit probably should go to coach Chip Kelly.

11: The number of touchdowns tossed by Mike Glennon this season, breaking the franchise's record for most touchdowns thrown in a season by a rookie. The previous record holder: Josh Freeman with 10.

13: The number of interceptions thrown this season by Joe Flacco , who signed a $120.6 million deal in the offseason. That's a career high for Flacco, and there's still six more weeks of regular-season action to go.

26: The number of years it's been since an undrafted rookie has thrown three touchdown passes in a game until Matt McGloin accomplished that Sunday vs. the Houston Texans , via NFL Communications. The last to do it was Erik Kramer in 1987. McGloin also is the first to throw three touchdowns and no interceptions since at least 1967. McGloin ALSO is only the second Penn State quarterback to start an NFL game in the last 20 years, via Andrew Siciliano. Kerry Collins was the other.

27: The number of points scored by the Lions in the second quarter vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers . Detroit scored zero points before and after the second quarter and lost.

113: The number of minutes the Chicago Bears -Ravens game was delayed in Chicago because of inclement weather.

209: The number of consecutive games that Washington Redskins linebacker London Fletcher has started, via Grant Paulsen. On Sunday, he passed Derrick Brooks for the NFL record of consecutive starts by a linebacker.

412: The number of days before Sunday that the Eagles last won a game in Philadelphia.

419: The number of passing yards accumulated by Carson Palmer , the first Arizona Cardinals quarterback to put up 400-plus yards since Kurt Warner did so in 2008, via the Cardinals. It's also the biggest yardage day for Palmer since a 440-yard performance in November 2006.

16,055: The number of career passing yards for Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford , who broke Hall of Famer Bobby Layne's team record of 15,710 (via Gil Brandt). Coincidentally, both men attended Highland Park High School in Dallas. Not at the same time, though.
