Watch Now: NFL Win Totals: Arizona Cardinals O/U 7 (2:48)

Only time will tell whether the 2020 NFL season kicks off on time and holds its standard 17-week regular season. But even with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic abbreviating teams' in-person offseason programs -- and perhaps, eventually, eliminating them entirely -- the league is preparing to proceed as planned come September, with 256 games on the slate starting Sept. 10.

If/when games begin, one of the most interesting teams to watch will be the Arizona Cardinals, who have missed the playoffs in four straight seasons but won two of their last three games in 2019 and spent the 2020 offseason beefing up an already promising offense. Five years removed from a trip to the NFC Championship, Arizona boasts not only a former No. 1 pick in quarterback Kyler Murray, but now one of the game's top wide receivers in DeAndre Hopkins. They figure to at least challenge the NFC West this year.

In celebration of (hopefully) football on the horizon, here's a way-too-early week-by-week prediction for all 16 of the Cardinals' regular season games on the schedule, complete with over/under win totals for every opponent courtesy of William Hill Sports Book, as well as Week 1 and 2 lines. The Cardinals' O/U is 7 wins:

Week 1 at 49ers

Line: 49ers -7.5
Opponent win total:
O/U 10.5

Prediction: Kliff Kingsbury keeps the game plan relatively simple with Arizona on the road after an abbreviated offseason, and while DeAndre Hopkins gets plenty of action as Kyler Murray's new top target, San Francisco's edge rush is still just a little too much. The Cardinals flash but lose 28-23.

Projected record: 0-1

Week 2 vs. Redskins

Line: Cardinals -7
Opponent win total: O/U 5.5

Prediction: Back at home, Arizona feasts on Washington's post-Trent Williams line, downing Dwayne Haskins seven times, with Chandler Jones leading the way. Murray, meanwhile, has a field day throwing against Ron Rivera's rebuilt secondary as the Cardinals win 34-16.

Projected record: 1-1

Week 3 vs. Lions

Opponent win total: O/U 6.5

Prediction: Fired up not to tie like they did in 2019, both sides come out swinging, trading deep shots out of the gate. An offensive showcase comes down to a pair of field goal tries, and after Matt Prater can't connect from 55, Zane Gonzalez drills a game-winner as time expires. Cardinals win 31-28.

Projected record: 2-1

Week 4 at Panthers

Opponent win total: O/U 5.5

Prediction: Christian McCaffrey gobbles up targets as usual, keeping Jordan Hicks and the Cards' defense on their toes. Teddy Bridgewater can't get much working deep, however, and Kenyan Drake goes off against Matt Rhule's young "D." Cardinals win 27-20.

Projected record: 3-1

Week 5 at Jets

Opponent win total: O/U 6.5

Prediction: Bogged down knowing they've still got a big trip to Dallas coming up, Arizona slips up on the East Coast, where Sam Darnold picks on Patrick Peterson and Le'Veon Bell helps New York stay on the field. The Cards lose 24-22.

Projected record: 3-2

Week 6 at Cowboys

Opponent win total: O/U 9.5

Prediction: Dak Prescott approaches 400 yards passing airing it out to Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb, but Isaiah Simmons nabs a late-game pick to turn the tables. Murray, meanwhile, is incredibly elusive under the lights, riding big nights from Hopkins and Larry Fitzgerald to the upset of the week. Cardinals win 31-30.

Projected record: 4-2

Week 7 vs. Seahawks

Opponent win total: O/U 9.5

Prediction: Arizona's "D" has no trouble bottling up Carlos Hyde close to the line, and Chris Carson doesn't fare much better. Russell Wilson is signature Russell Wilson, though, extending plays to out-duel Murray and keep pace in the NFC West. Cardinals lose 26-23.

Projected record: 4-3

Week 9 vs. Dolphins

Opponent win total: O/U 6

Prediction: Still clinging to the No. 1 QB job with Tua Tagovailoa in the wings, Ryan Fitzpatrick chucks it like there's no tomorrow, and Brian Flores' scrappy, retooled defense manages to keep Murray under fire. A Hail Mary shot to Hopkins as time expires falls just short, and the Cardinals lose 35-28.

Projected record: 4-4

Week 10 vs. Bills

Opponent win total: O/U 9

Prediction: Sean McDermott's "D" isn't quite as dominant as it was in 2019, but Tre'Davious White still gives Hopkins some fits on the outside. Stefon Diggs, meanwhile, goes deep multiple times to boost Josh Allen's confidence and ensure the Cardinals lose 27-24.

Projected record: 4-5

Week 11 @ Seahawks

Opponent win total: O/U 9.5

Prediction: Losers of four of their last five, the Cardinals enter as heavy underdogs despite opening the year 3-1. While Wilson keeps Seattle in the mix until the end, this time it's Murray who steals the show, quieting a limited Seahawks crowd with a near-flawless fourth-quarter performance to help the Cards win 33-26 and stay firmly in the postseason picture.

Projected record: 5-5

Week 12 @ Patriots

Opponent win total: O/U 9

Prediction: Already with as many wins (5) as they logged in 2019, the Cardinals hit the road and run right into Bill Belichick's defense, which stuffs Kenyan Drake and gives Jarrett Stidham more than enough opportunities to play good, methodical football. Kingsbury has the better roster but can't out-scheme Belichick as the Cards lose 24-17.

Projected record: 5-6

Week 13 vs. Rams

Opponent win total: O/U 8.5

Prediction: Chandler Jones, Corey Peters and Isaiah Simmons absolutely demolish Jared Goff, prompting yet another wave of questions about the Rams QB's future under Sean McVay. Speaking of McVay, he watches jealously as Kingsbury wields Murray as a dual-threat weapon and claims its second straight divisional win 28-20.

Projected record: 6-6

Week 14 at Giants

Opponent win total: O/U 6.5

Prediction: Both Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley post solid numbers in New Jersey, but Murray is once again the star of the show, playing point guard in an ultra-efficient day relying on Drake and Hopkins to win 33-23.

Projected record: 7-6

Week 15 vs. Eagles

Opponent win total: O/U 9.5

Prediction: For the second week in a row, the Cardinals foil an NFC East competitor not by completely slowing their offense (Carson Wentz and Miles Sanders, in particular, shine for Philadelphia) but by dizzying their defense. Murray scoots past the Eagles' linebackers with ease to set up a game-winning field goal. Cards win 31-28.

Projected record: 8-6

Week 16 vs. 49ers

Opponent win total: O/U 10.5

Prediction: Fighting for divisional respect as well as a chance to earn an NFC Wild Card spot, Kingsbury gets creative to work around San Francisco's pass rush. Jimmy Garoppolo has too much time to throw, though, and benefits from a balanced attack to lift the Niners yet again. Cardinals lose 26-21.

Projected record: 8-7

Week 17 at Rams

Opponent win total: O/U 8.5

Prediction: Primed with a chance to nearly double their 2019 win total, not to mention sneak into the playoffs, the Cardinals face a stiffer challenge this time around, even with John Wolford getting the start at QB for L.A. They still prevail, with Christian Kirk taking his turn as the big-play star of the offense. Cardinals win 29-23.

Projected record: 9-7
