Cardinals donate $100,000 to assist families affected by Yarnell Fire
Cardinals president Michael Bidwell delivered a check for $100,000 to the 100 Club of Arizona to help those families, public safety officers and firefighters affected by the Yarnell Fire.
Nineteen firefighters from the elite Granite Mountain Hotshots lost their lives over the weekend while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire some 80 miles northwest of Phoenix. It marked the nation's largest firefighting death toll since Sept. 11. And it was the worst firefighting tragedy in a wildfire since more than 25 volunteers were killed in the Griffith Park Fire in Los Angeles in 1933.
On Monday, members of the Cardinals visited the American Red Cross Shelter in Prescott, Ariz., to meet with those affected by the Yarnell Fire. Team president Michael Bidwell also delivered a check for $100,000 to the 100 Club of Arizona, which according to AZCardinals.com, "provides immediate financial assistance to families of public safety officers and firefighters who are seriously injured or killed in the line of duty."
“Our hearts go out to all of those affected by the devastating and tragic events this week, especially the families of the 19 brave members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who lost their lives serving our community,” Bidwill said according to the team website. “Our team is proud to assist the ongoing efforts and encourage our fans, the community and Arizona businesses to support these relief initiatives.”
