Cardinals sign running back Rashard Mendenhall to one-year deal
The Cardinals signed running back Rashard Mendenahall to a one-year deal.
The Cardinals wanted to land a running back this offseason and were rumored to be in the mix for both Reggie Bush and Rashard Mendenhall. Bush is headed to Detroit, but just a few minutes after that move was announced, Arizona made it's move, nabbing Mendenhall off the free-agency pile.
Mendenhall, per his agent Mike McCarthy, signed a one-year deal and joins his old offensive coordinator Bruce Arians in the desert.

Arians ran the Steelers offense when Mendenhall was drafted by Pittsburgh in the first round in the 2008 NFL Draft. Mendenhall had two stout seasons with Pittsburgh, rushing for 2,381 yards in 2009 and 2010.
He struggled in 2011 and dealt with injuries in 2012 before becoming a free agent, but he's a nice upside-filled option for the Cardinals.
Mendenhall will be familiar with the scheme, has the trust of his head coach, and there's not much competition in Arizona. The Cardinals recently released their former first-round pick Beanie Wells, and the uber-talented Ryan Williams hasn't been able to stay healthy during the first two years of his career.
