Dolphins receiver Chad Johnson was arrested for domestic violence Saturday night in Miami, according to a report from the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

According to the newspaper, the incident occurred in a vehicle when Johnson allegedly head-butted his new wife, Evelyn Lozado, in the middle of an argument. When police arrived, she apparently had lacerations on her forehead. Johnson was then arrested. The Palm Beach Post is reporting that the fight started over a receipt for a box of condoms.

"It gets pretty heated," Davie police captain Dale Engle told the Sun Sentinel. "By the time they get home here in Davie, it's pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and head butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say she has a good laceration on her forehead."

According to various reports, Johnson can't be released until he sees a judge. Right now, it's unclear when that would be, though it could be as late as Monday. Lozada was transported to the hospital.

"We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all the relevent information," the Dolphins said in a statement.

Throughout his pro career, Johnson has stayed out of legal trouble.

The newly-married Johnson is coming off an irrelevant performance in the team’s first preseason game, dropping the only pass intended for him. In the first episode of Hard Knocks that ran last week, Johnson joked to a team official that he was going to get arrested on his day off (this occurs at 40:25 in the video below).
