Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a fracture in his left, non-throwing hand during his team's 31-14 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13. And after undergoing surgery to stabilize the broken bone, Herbert's status for Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles is still unknown.

On their final injury report of the week, the Chargers listed Herbert as questionable with a left hand injury. Herbert was limited in each of the team's practices from Thursday to Saturday.

Herbert said Tuesday that the procedure -- which involved the insertion of a plate and multiple screws -- was successful. Herbert said Wednesday the plan is to "prepare as if I'm going to play" against the Eagles come Monday night. Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said the team is "optimistic" Herbert will be able to suit up.

Herbert injured his hand on the Chargers' opening drive against the Raiders, which was capped by a 10-yard Quentin Johnston touchdown. The star signal-caller took a big hit from Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn on the play, and initially appeared to be OK.

Following the opening scoring drive, Herbert exited the sideline and jogged to the locker room. Trey Lance took over at quarterback on L.A.'s next drive. When Herbert returned to the game that very same drive, he sported a large protective glove.

Herbert completed 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards, two touchdowns and one interception vs. the Raiders, and passed Dan Marino for the third-most passing yards (23,935) in a quarterback's first six seasons in NFL history. Los Angeles relied on its rushing attack Sunday, as Kimani Vidal and Jaret Patterson combined for 180 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

While Herbert is pushing to play, he would need to wear a protective device on that injured hand if he suits up. And it remains possible that Lance could make his first start for L.A. in Week 14.

Lance, the former No. 3 overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers, made one start for the Dallas Cowboys last year, a 23-19 loss to the Washington Commanders in which he completed 20 of 34 passes for 244 yards. Lance is 2-3 in his career as a starter.

The Chargers did get some good injury news on Saturday when rookie running back Omarion Hampton was a full participant. Hampton hasn't played since suffering an ankle injury in Week 5, but he is expected to return against the Eagles, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.
