Chihuahua, Speedo lover Zoltan Mesko thanks Patriots for chance

Punter Zoltan Mesko wasn't the biggest name to be released by the Patriots Saturday, but he we want to mention him here for two reasons. First, he left a lovely message on Facebook thanking the organization for the opportunity to play in the NFL.

"First and foremost, I want to thank the New England Patriots for everything they have done for me. I have nothing but love in my heart as I depart this great organization," Mesko wrote Saturday morning. "Mr. Kraft, the coaches, the strength staff, the trainers, the media personnel, the marketing department, the rest of the amazing staff members at Gillette, and especially my teammates…THANK YOU for all that you have given and have done for me.

"I want to say that I see the silver lining in things now more than ever, and am a true believer that things DO happen for a reason," he continued. "This goes out to anyone that will ever come across a mere bump in the road; be thankful, be positive, because there’s a deeper purpose of WHY things happen that we may not yet, or may never come to understand. Just believe. I will miss New England, and more than anything, I’ll be missing the smiles on those kids whom I visited and acted like a goofball in front of. It was ALL worth it. God bless."

And second, we'll always have a soft spot for Mesko because of his peculiar affinity for chihuahuas and Speedos. Behold these tweets from February:

As we joked at the time, Mesko's two furry pals, Lil' Mr. Ray Guy and Garo (fake names to protect the innocent), look absolutely horrified and for good reason. This is straight out of The Big Lebowski, and we wouldn't be surprised if just out of the frame Uli is passed out in one of those inflatable chairs.

Back on earth, Mesko was set to make $1.32 million in 2013. The have Patriots opted to go with undrafted rookie Ryan Allen.
