Colts sign ex-Patriots WR Deion Branch
The Colts signed former Patriots receiver Deion Branch on Monday. Branch will see his former teammates on Saturday when Indianapolis travels to New England for a Divisional playoff game.
The last time Deion Branch played in a postseason game, he was playing with the Patriots. This time around, he'll be playing against them. The Colts announced on Monday that they've signed the former Patriots wide receiver.
Indianapolis is set to play in New England on Saturday night with a berth into the AFC Championship game on the line.
Branch, who spent the 2013 season out of the NFL, hasn't played in a game since last year's AFC title game when he caught two passes for 16 yards in the Patriots 28-13 loss to Baltimore. When the Patriots were short on receiver depth earlier this season, Tom Brady reached out to Branch, but nothing came of it.
Overall, Branch has played in a total of 17 postseason games in his 11-year career, including Super Bowl XXXIX, where he caught 11 passes for 133 yards on his way to winning the Super Bowl MVP Award. Branch's 11 catches in Super Bowl XXXIX are still a Super Bowl-record that he shares with Jerry Rice, Wes Welker and Dan Ross.
The Colts were able to sign Branch after two roster spots opened up on Monday as defensive end Fili Moala and cornerback Greg Toler were both place on injured reserve. To fill the second spot, the Colts promoted wide receiver Josh Lenz from the practice squad.
