Dan Marino admits to fathering child outside marriage

Pro Football Hall of Famer and The NFL Today studio analyst Dan Marino confirmed a report in the New York Post that he fathered a child outside his marriage in 2005 with a CBS employee, and according to the Post, he paid millions to keep the affair quiet.

Marino, who played his entire 17-year career with the Dolphins and will work CBS's Super Bowl coverage this Sunday, issued a statement to the Post.

“This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then,” he said. “We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved.”

At the time of the affair, Marino had been married for 20 years and had six children, two of whom had been adopted. On Thursday, the couple celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary.

“My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together,” Marino said in the statement. “And we continue to be a strong and loving family.”
