Dez Bryant is on the field for the Cowboys on Sunday, but it would've been completely understandable if Bryant had chosen to sit out the team's crucial game against the Steelers.

According to Cowboys sideline reporter Kristi Scales, Bryant learned that his father, MacArthur Hatton, died Saturday night.


According to the Dallas Morning-News, Scales reported that the cause of death was an illness.

"Of course, he's very sad," said Jerry Jones, per the Morning-News. "You only have one of those. But he was getting the kind of support you would think. He's loved in the locker room, and by the coaches as well. And so there was a lot of sensitivity and love being expressed to him. I'll say this. If he wanted to be at some place in his life, I bet in would be right in the middle of that locker room to be dealing with that."

In the first quarter Sunday, Bryant caught two passes for 33 yards. In third quarter, with the Cowboys trailing, Bryant hauled in a 50-yard touchdown.
