The Miami Dolphins have found a new identity over their last three games, and it has led to three straight wins. The identity: Give the ball to Jay Ajayi and let him go to work.

Ajayi became the fourth player in modern football history to rush for over 200 yards in back-to-back games in Miami's two wins before the bye, then returned with a 24-carry, 111-yard performance this week in a win over the New York Jets. He now has 529 yards over the last three games.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase has grown quite fond of his new workhorse back, and stuck with the game plan of handing him the rock all throughout the second half, even when he underwhelmed with only 26 yards on 10 carries before halftime. Ajayi paid him back handsomely with 85 yards on 14 second-half totes, helping ice the game down the stretch with Miami holding a slim 27-23 lead.

Gase said of Ajayi after the win, "I'm never going to go away from him," per the Palm Beach Post.

This marks a huge change in philosophy from previous Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, who was often criticized for going away from Lamar Miller, the team's former running back (now with the Texans). Miller never had a streak like the one Ajayi is on, but of course, he also never had three straight games with 24 carries or more like Ajayi has just had. The greatest number of carries he had in a three-game span in Miami was 54; Ajayi just had 78.

The Dolphins and their fans will certainly welcome the newfound commitment to running the football, especially if it keeps leading to wins. The Chargers team Miami faces next is eighth in the NFL in yards per carry allowed, but has also given up an NFL-high 13 rushing touchdowns this season. It's possible Ajayi could keep rolling right on through next week.
