Former USC Quarterback Matt Barkley signed a four-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, the team announced. Barkley was a fourth-round selection of the Eagles in April's NFL Draft

A fourth-rounder signing a contract doesn't usually make headlines, unless that fourth-rounder is someone who could have been a first-round selection in 2012 but decided to stay in school instead, dropped to the 98th overall spot in 2013 and cost himself a lot of money in the process.

Although the financial details of Barkley's contract haven't been released, it's safe to say it will be for a lot less money than he would have made as first-round pick in 2012. Barkley isn't letting that bother him, though.

"With the new CBA, it's all about the second contract and reaching that point," Barkley said in May, according to Philadelphia magazine. "And while that's not the goal -- my goal isn't to make money, it's to establish myself as a quarterback -- and if that all happens, then money shouldn't be an issue."

The money doesn't seem like an issue to Barkley, even if it does to some people, like ESPN's Adam Schefter, who ribbed Barkley about it on Twitter on Thursday. Barkley took notice:

Barkley looks to be the team's No. 3 quarterback -- behind Michael Vick and Nick Foles -- heading into July's training camp. However, with Chip Kelly, anything's possible. If Kelly decides Barkley is the best fit for his system, Barkley could find himself moving up the depth chart quickly.

With Barkley under contract, the Eagles now have seven of their eight picks signed. The only exception is offensive tackle Lane Johnson, whom the Eagles selected in the first round (fourth overall).
