Falcons LB Sean Weatherspoon placed on short-term IR
After suffering a foot injury Sunday, the Falcons have placed one of their top defensive players on the short-term IR list.
On Monday, the Falcons lost starting defensive end Kroy Biermann and fullback Bradie Ewing to season-ending injuries, and though linebacker Sean Weatherspoon’s foot injury won’t necessarily keep him out for the rest of 2013, the fact the team put him on the short-term IR list Tuesday is a big blow to Atlanta.
Now, the Falcons have lost three important cogs, including one of the league’s most-talented young linebackers.
Weatherspoon, who tied for the team-high with 95 tackles last season, hurt his foot in the first half of Atlanta’s win against the Rams, and he was on Monday to undergo tests for what was labeled a sprained foot.
Weatherspoon now will be out at least eight weeks, but he can begin to practice in six weeks. He still won’t be eligible to return until Week 11. Here was Weatherspoon's reaction.
I thank The Lord for life's challenges. It is all a part of his plan, He'll never put more on me than I can bear. I know that I'm not alone.— Sean Weatherspoon (@SeanWSpoon56) September 17, 2013
All of this combined with the unknown severity of running back Steven Jackson’s thigh -- NFL.com reports he could be out from 2-4 weeks -- and it’s clear why I still think Miami will win this Sunday vs. Atlanta.
