Geno Smith says he and Mark Sanchez 'are cool'
Geno Smith said that he and teammate Mark Sanchez 'are cool' despite the rookie skipping Jets West.
"Me and Mark are cool. There's no hard feelings or anything," Smith said. "He's up there getting some work with the guys, I'm down here getting work. Some guys are going to be down here today. It's just been good."
It's a miserable storyline that won't go away (and, yes, yours truly is guilty as charged of perpetuating it) until the actual storyline of who will win the Jets' quarterback competition begins to emerge.
But at least Geno realizes the media is "doing their jobs" by working some angle.
"I'm taking this competition very seriously, preparing myself to be a starter as I've said all along," Geno said. "And I think the media, they're doing their jobs. They gotta create a hot story, they gotta keep the fans interested, so they're going to put whatever they want out there."
It's close, kids. The season -- or at least, the preseason -- is almost here. We'll have actual football to talk about. And then we can all forget about Jets West. At least until next year and maybe forever.
Or until the Jets start flip-flopping quarterbacks midway through the season.
