Giants GM Reese: Justin Tuck, Hakeem Nicks will test free agency

-- The two biggest free agents the Giants have as they move further into the offseason are receiver receiver Hakeem Nicks and defensive end Justin Tuck.

As we wrote about it in the team's offseason preview, it appears as though the team has a better chance of re-signing Tuck (though he'll probably be expensive) than Nicks. But on Saturday, general manager Jerry Reese made it sound that Tuck also will test himself on the free agent market. And that Reese is fine with it.

"Free agency means you try to get as much money as you can," Reese said. "Justin will see what the market is. We'd love to have him back, but we'll see where it goes."

Tuck is coming off his best season in the past three, recording a team-high 11 sacks.

Nicks, meanwhile, continues to underwhelm us, and even though he was in a contract season in 2013, it'd be fair to question his statistics (56 catches, 896 yards, zero touchdowns) and his effort. The chances of him returning to New York seem awfully slim at this point.

And with the team's apparent willingness to let Tuck test the market as well, both high-priced free agents might not return.

"You never know," Reese said. "We keep all of our options open. Both of those guys, they deserve to see what the market is."
