Giants WR Victor Cruz: Team has agreed on structure of new contract
Last week, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said that although he wants a new contract, a holdout would "never happen." It appears he was telling the truth. During an appearance Tuesday on WFAN, Cruz told host Mike Francesa that "From what I hear, they've just agreed on the structure right now. And that's all I'm at liberty to say."

Last week, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said that although he wants a new contract, a holdout would "never happen." It appears he was telling the truth. During an appearance Tuesday on WFAN, Cruz told host Mike Francesa (via CBS New York) that, “From what I hear, they’ve just agreed on the structure right now. And that’s all I’m at liberty to say.”
Cruz, who signed as an undrafted free agent out of UMass in 2010, is set to make $540,000 this season. But that could change if the two sides come to a long-term agreement.
“Hopefully this leads to the right track and we’ll get it done sooner than later," Cruz said. … "I’m happy so far, so I can just relax and play some football.”
He also admitted that he didn't want this to drag out into the spring and summer.
“I want to just get it done now and like I said, not have it be a distraction in the offseason where I’m not showing up to minicamp and things like that,” he said. “I don’t want that to become an issue. So I just want to get it done early, as early as possible, and just put it behind."
And it's not like Cruz, 25, has designs on selling his services to the highest bidder.
“I just love it here,” he told Francesa. “It’s home, the people have embraced me. I just love this place so much. I don’t want to go anywhere, I don’t want to play for any other organization at this point in my life. I want to be a New York Giant for a very long time.”
In 2011, Cruz had 82 receptions for a franchise-record 1,536 yards with nine TDs. He has 52 catches for 650 yards and seven TDs through eight games this season.
