Here are the Vegas odds on when the Cowboys will lose their second game
The last team to go 15-1 with a rookie quarterback? The 2004 Steelers
No one knew what to expect when Tony Romo went down in August with a back injury that would sideline him for at least two months. No one knew if rookie fourth-rounder Dak Prescott would be up to the challenge -- especially since Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel flopped in that role a year before -- and no one knew if rookie first-rounder Ezekiel Elliott would be able to handle workhorse duties behind Prescott in the backfield.
But 10 weeks into the season and the Cowboys have been all but flawless. They're 8-1 and fresh off an impressive last-second win in Pittsburgh that left Ben Roethlisberger convinced they're the best team in football.
In fact, the only bump in the road came the very first week of the season, when the Cowboys fell to the Giants, 20-19. It's been eight straight victories since, and now we're at the point in the conversation where we're wondering if they'll lose another regular-season game.
Here's the full list (with opponents' records in parentheses):
- Week 11 vs. (5-4) Ravens +300
- Week 12 vs. (5-3-1) Redskins +450
- Week 13 at (5-4) Vikings +190
- Week 14 at (6-3) Giants +350
- Week 15 vs. (4-5) Buccaneers +850
- Week 16 vs. (5-4) Lions +900
- Week 17 at (5-4) Eagles +850
And the odds the Cowboys reel off 15 straight and finish 15-1? +450
The last team to finish 15-1 with a rookie quarterback under center for most of the season? The 2004 Steelers, who started 1-1 and won 14 straight. That team, like the 2016 Cowboys, relied on a stout running game and dominant offensive line. Pittsburgh won its divisional matchup against the Jets but would lose in the AFC Championship Game to the Patriots.
