The Jaguars can't catch a break. Not long after losing 34-20 in St. Louis to fall to 0-5, Jacksonville coach Gus Bradley announced first-round pick and starting left tackle Luke Joeckel would miss the rest of the year.
Joeckel suffered a high ankle fracture during the Jaguars loss during the first quarter of the Jaguars' 34-20 loss to the Rams and was carted off.
The No. 2 overall pick, Joeckel began the season at right tackle but moved to the left side this week after the Jaguars dealt former first-round pick Eugene Monroe to the Ravens for a pair of later-round picks.
The move made some sense -- Monroe was in a contract year and unlikely to stay in Baltimore -- especially given the Jags could plug Joeckel in on the left side and see how held up protecting the blind side of Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne.
We won't get to know that question now. With Joeckel sidelined the Jaguars are freefalling to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, where they'll almost assuredly draft a quarterback.
The worst news, of course, is that they can't continue to develop their top pick from a year ago. Cameron Bradfield and Austin Pasztor are the top options remaining on an incredibly thin offensive line.
