Jay Cutler says DeAngelo Hall is just 'another player'

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall have a history. Back in 2010, Hall intercepted Cutler four times in a game Washington would win 17-14. The teams meet again Sunday. Naturally, Cutler was asked about Hall.

"Another player," the quarterback said, not caring to elaborate.

Hall's response to Cutler's assessment?

“I don’t know what you want Jay to say,” Hall told reporters in Washington (via the Chicago Tribune). “‘Oh my God, I’m scared of this guy!’ He’s trying to say I’m another guy. Whether he believes that in his heart or not, that’s what he has to say. He has gone against some great corners in this league. I’m probably not the best guy he ever has gone against.

“I can’t go into it thinking, ‘This is Jay Cutler.’ But for me personally, I feel good about the matchup. I feel good about the things we’re trying to do, defensively, scheme-wise. A little bit different personnel they have -- a little more weapons -- so he probably feels good with his guys. We feel we can make some plays against those guys, (but) it will be a tough challenge to us.”

Back in 2010, after Cutler's four-pick performance, here's what he said about throwing the ball in Hall's general direction.

“I’ve played against him before. There’s no reason to shy away from him," he said (via the Washington Post). "I mean, that’s hard for me to say, throwing four picks at a guy, but I’d still, if we had to play them tomorrow, I’d go at him every time, if we could.”

Hall's reaction at the time: “You know what man, Jay’s a little bit -- he don’t really understand, I guess, the game, the game of football,” Hall said. “And in the game of football, you’re gonna see guys several times in their career. You know, he completed four passes against me when I was out in Oakland and he was in Denver on a Monday Night Football game, and I knew leading up to the game he was still feeling good about that. He made some smart, snide comments about that after that game, so I knew definitely he was gonna try to come out there and try me, and it didn’t work for him.”

Three years later, and both players sound as if they've moved on from that game. But Washington D.C.'s ESPN 980 has a long memory, as evidenced by this promo airing ahead of Sunday's rematch.

“Sunday, Jay Cutler comes to D.C., where he’s reunited with his favorite receiver: DeAngelo Hall.”
