Jim Irsay says Colts are 'close' on deal with No. 1 overall pick Andrew Luck

Indy claims to be 'close' to locking up Luck. (US Presswire)

Given that the 2012 Colts season -- and the future of the team -- rests on potential impact rookie Andrew Luck's shoulders, Indy would probably prefer to get their top pick signed to a contract.

Luck, however, is one of eight first-round picks still unsigned. But owner Jim Irsay tweeted on Sunday morning that the team is "close" to getting a deal done with the top pick. Also: his team will be full of MONSTERS. Bulk ones.

If this sounds familiar, it should -- Irsay tweeted that the two sides were "close" on June 2.

And the Colts owner also said the two sides were close later in June when he took to Twitter in order to refute a report that there was a hang-up between Indy and Luck's camp because of marketing opportunities.

So, yeah, this might not be the time for Colts fans to exhale just yet. A deal will get done, mainly because figuring out the amount of money to give Luck is a pretty simple issue under the new CBA.

Just remember that close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
