Johnny Manziel: 'I am ready' for the NFL

Johnny Manziel's college career is (probably) almost over. He'll attend the Heisman Trophy ceremony as last year's winner and a 2013 invitee and then he's got Texas A&M's bowl game. Manziel will then have an opportunity to make a leap to the next level.

And the Aggies quarterback believes "I am ready" for the NFL, but he wants to see what his advisors think before committing to leave College Station.

Johnny Football's departure may be almost perfunctory at this point. Ever since a tumultuous offseason this previous year it's looked like Manziel would play out 2013 and then make a move for the NFL Draft.

What's particularly curious is how quickly his draft stock's risen. When he was cavorting around the country and getting grumpy sportswriters all worked up into a tizzy over his antics, people questioned whether he was mature enough to be taken early in the draft.

Look at our 2014 NFL Mock Drafts now: Rob Rang's got Manziel going No. 6 to the Jaguars, while Dane Brugler has him off the board even earlier, at No. 4 to the Vikings

Manziel's success has drawn comparisons to Russell Wilson and Drew Brees, two other height-deficient quarterbacks who succeeded despite traditional scouting knocks.

"Not every team will see Manziel as worthy of a first round pick but during his time in Seattle, Bradley saw how one highly athletic and ultra-competitive short quarterback resurrected a franchise," Rang writes. "He might be more willing than most to gamble on another. Further, owner Shad Khan might appreciate the buzz adding someone like Johnny Football to the team might create."

Manziel isn't as mature as Wilson. (No one is.) But he's a really talented quarterback who's shown some serious chops on the football field at the college level.

Now it's just a matter of him ensuring he can achieve the same success at the NFL level. That remains to be seen, but it's pretty obvious that Manziel believes he can pull it off.
