Jonathan Banks of 'Breaking Bad' weighs in on Redskins name

Johnthan Banks is a rookie cornerback for the Buccaneers. Jonathan Banks is an actor, most recently known for playing Mike Ehrmantraut in "Breaking Bad." His ability to clean up messes in Albuquerque, N.M.,  would certainly come in handy in Tampa, but during a recent conversation with Paul F. Tompkins of SpeakEasy, Banks has another NFL team on the brain: the Washington Redskins. Specifically, why the Redskins should change their name.

“Washington, D.C. That would be a great sports rival of Philadelphia,” Banks told Tompkins, a Philly native. “[I'm] a Washington Redskins fan, but you know, we gotta change the name, dude. Even if there are two American Indians out there that don’t want to be called Redskins. Just change the name. If somebody’s offended by it, then change it,” he continued. “It’s not that big a deal.”

To which Washington owner Dan Snyder would no doubt reply: "We will never change the name of the team. As a lifelong Redskins fan, and I think that the Redskins fans understand the great tradition and what it's all about and what it means. … [So] it's that simple. NEVER -- you can use caps."

Word of warning: If you're still catching up on on "Breaking Bad," Banks has some spoilers in the video above so proceed at your own peril.
