Jonathan Martin camp to meet with Dolphins at NFL combine
Jonathan Martin might not be with Miami in 2014, but he still plans on playing. Martin's camp will meet with the Dolphins at the NFL combine to decide Martin's future with the team.
Jonathan Martin may or may not play for the Miami Dolphins next season, but one thing's for sure: He says he wants to play for someone in 2014. Martin's agent, Kenny Zuckerman, told the Palm Beach Post that his plan is to meet with the Dolphins at the NFL scouting combine to figure what's next for Martin.
"We're going to meet with the Dolphins at the combine and see what their plans are," Zuckerman said. "Right now they have his property, they have his rights."
The Dolphins actually have Martin's rights for at least two more seasons. The 24-year-old Martin, who just finished his second season in the league, signed a four-year deal with Miami in 2012 after the Dolphins selected him in the second round of the NFL Draft.
If the Dolphins don't want Martin, then they better be prepared to trade him because he'll definitely be on the field somewhere in 2014, according to Zuckerman.
"He will be on the field in 2014," Zuckerman said. "There's no doubt. He wants to, he's ready, he's excited. He'll be somewhere this season."
Martin doesn't seem to care where he ends up as long as he ends up somewhere. Zuckerman told NFL.com that Martin's willing to "play anywhere for anyone."
Zuckerman didn't give a specific date for when he would be meeting with the Dolphins, but the combine runs Feb. 19-25 in Indianapolis, so it will be sometime during that week. After that, we should get a clearer idea of when and where Martin might play in 2014.
One person who likely won't be surprised to see Martin on the field next season is 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, who coached Martin at Stanford. In the Ted Wells report, which was released on Friday, Harbaugh said that "he believed that Martin likely could continue to have a successful career in the NFL."
